Kleinfischerei im globalen Süden: Schlüssel zur Ernährungssicherheit oder bedrohte Lebensgrundlage?

Anlässlich des Weltfischereitags diskutieren wir die zentrale Rolle der Kleinfischerei in Afrika – sie ist Überleben, Klimaresilienz und Gerechtigkeit. Mehr als 10 Millionen Kleinfischer*innen versorgen über 200 Millionen Menschen. Doch industrielle Fischereiflotten, Fischmehlfabriken und Umweltveränderungen setzen diesen Gemeinschaften massiv zu.

Im Fokus:  

• Stimmen aus der Kleinfischerei: „Ohne unsere Netze hätten Millionen von Familien nicht jeden Tag zu essen.“
• Herausforderungen durch Überfischung und Klimawandel
• Lösungsansätze: Küstenzugang, Co-Management, digitale Innovationen und Transparenz
• Wo können entwicklungspolitische Maßnahmen und globale Initiativen Unterstützung bieten, und was muss auf EU-Ebene getan werden, um die Fischbestände zu sichern und Ernährungssicherheit zu erreichen?

Artisanal small-scale fisheries in the Global South: Key to food security or threatened livelihoods?

On the occasion of World Fisheries Day, we will discuss the central role of artisanal small-scale fisheries in Africa – they are about survival, climate resilience and justice. More than 10 million small-scale fishers provide food for over 200 million people. However, industrial fishing fleets, fishmeal factories and environmental changes are putting enormous pressure on these communities.

In focus:

• Voices from artisanal fisheries: ‘Without our nets, millions of families would not have food to eat every day.’
• Challenges posed by overfishing and climate change
• Possible solutions: coastal access, co-management, digital innovations and transparency
• Where can development policy work and global initiatives provide support, and what needs to be done at EU level in order to secure fish resources and achieve food security?
